There is no medical standard that defines 7D. Here is what the number refers to on the machines sold in Manila, which part of it changes your result, and the three questions to ask before you book.
Every clinic in Manila seems to have moved from HIFU to 4D HIFU to 7D HIFU inside three years. Nobody moved from a 4D face to a 7D face. Here is what the number counts, why it went up, and which part of it changes your result.
The number is a product name
There is no medical standard that defines 7D. No regulator certifies a device as seventh dimensional. The term came from device manufacturers and the letter D stands for dimension in the same way it does on a cinema poster.
What sits behind the name is real, though, and worth understanding before you compare two quotes.
What the count usually refers to
On most machines sold in the Philippines under the 7D name, the number refers to how many cartridges the device carries and therefore how many depths and areas it can treat in one session. A first generation HIFU device shipped with three cartridges: 4.5mm for the SMAS layer that holds the face up, 3.0mm for the deep dermis, 1.5mm for the layer closest to the surface.
A 7D device carries more. The extra cartridges are usually smaller ones for the eye area, where 4.5mm has no business going, and larger ones for the body, where the tissue is thicker than anything on a face.
The honest translation of 7D: this machine came with more cartridges than the old one.
Why that is still worth something
A therapist working with three cartridges treats your cheek and your under-eye with tools designed for a cheek. With a dedicated eye cartridge she can work closer to the orbital rim at a depth that suits skin half a millimetre thick. On a face where the tired look sits around the eyes rather than along the jaw, that is the difference between a session that helps and a session that misses the problem.
The body cartridges matter for the same reason in reverse. Treating an abdomen with a facial cartridge wastes the session.
Where the marketing runs ahead of the machine
Three claims travel with the 7D name and deserve a flat answer.
"7D is painless." It is not. Newer cartridges deliver energy in shorter pulses and most clients describe the sensation as easier than they expected, rating it three or four out of ten. Along the jawbone, where skin sits thin over bone, you will feel it whatever the number on the machine.
"7D works in one session." One session gives most people a visible result for about a year. That was true of three cartridge machines too. Heavier laxity still needs a second round three to six months later.
"7D is FDA approved." Individual devices carry individual clearances. The name 7D carries none, because it is not a device, it is a marketing tier. Ask which machine, not which dimension.
What to ask before you book anywhere
- Which cartridges will you use on me, and at what depths? A session called 7D that uses two cartridges is a three cartridge session with a better name.
- How many lines, across which areas? This decides the price more than the machine does. A ₱1,295 promo and a ₱15,000 session can both be described as 7D HIFU.
- When was the cartridge last replaced? Cartridges have a shot counter and lose output as they empty. A cartridge on its last hundred shots delivers less energy than the same cartridge on its first hundred.
A clinic that answers all three is quoting you a treatment.

What is the difference between HIFU and 7D HIFU?
The method is the same: focused ultrasound heating small points at set depths so the skin rebuilds collagen around them. 7D refers to a device carrying more cartridges than earlier machines, which adds depths for the eye area and the body. It is a product tier, not a different treatment.
Is 7D HIFU better than 4D HIFU?
On a jawline, the result depends on line count, depth choice and the therapist, more than on the number in the name. Around the eyes, a device with a dedicated eye cartridge does something a three cartridge machine cannot do safely. Ask which cartridges will be used on your face.
How long does 7D HIFU last?
Six to twelve months for most people. Your own collagen holds the result, so it fades the way collagen fades. Most clients book one maintenance session a year.
Is 7D HIFU painful?
You feel heat and a deep prick each time the handpiece fires, strongest along the jawbone. Most clients rate it three or four out of ten and talk through the session. Tell the therapist when a line hurts and she drops the energy for that pass.
How much does 7D HIFU cost in the Philippines?
Metro Manila runs from promotional rates in the low thousands for a first session to tens of thousands for a full face and neck at a high line count. The two numbers that make a quote comparable are the line count and the areas covered. A price without them cannot be compared to anything.
Can 7D HIFU be done around the eyes?
Yes, with the eye cartridge, which is one of the additions the name refers to. The energy goes shallower there than on a cheek. It is not done over the eyeball, and anyone with a metal implant or filler placed in the last two weeks should raise it at the consultation.
Does 7D HIFU work on the body?
The larger cartridges are made for it, usually for the abdomen and upper arms. Expect firmer looking skin rather than fat loss. Focused ultrasound for skin tightening and focused ultrasound for fat reduction are different settings on different machines, and clinics mix the two in their advertising.
