What focused ultrasound gives back in each decade, when it is the wrong purchase, and the four situations where we tell people to keep their money.
The answer changes with your skin, and skin changes on a schedule. Below is what focused ultrasound gives back at each stage, and the point at which it stops being the right purchase.
First, the test that beats any age
Pinch the skin under your jaw and let go. If it springs back, ultrasound has something to hold on to. If it stays folded, you have surplus skin and no device removes surplus.
Age correlates with that test. It does not decide it. We have turned away thirty five year olds and treated fifty eight year olds in the same week.
In your thirties
What is happening. Collagen production has been falling since your mid twenties. The jawline softens before it sags. Most people notice it in photographs taken by someone else, from below.
What HIFU gives you. A sharper jaw and a small lift in the cheek, visible at eight to twelve weeks, holding about a year. On skin this elastic the result looks like a rested version of you, which is the most a lift should look like at this age.
Is it worth it. Yes, if something has changed and you can see it in the pinch test. No, if nothing is loose and you are buying prevention. Ultrasound does not prevent laxity. Daily SPF 50 does, and costs a fraction of a session.
How often. One session, then reassess in a year.
In your forties
What is happening. The fat pads that sit high in the cheek begin to descend. Jowls start at the corner of the mouth. The neck starts moving.
What HIFU gives you. This is where the treatment does its clearest work. There is real laxity to tighten, and enough elasticity left for the tightening to hold. Jawline definition returns, the jowl softens, cheeks sit higher.
Is it worth it. For most people in this decade, yes, and it is the best value of the three.
How often. One session, reviewed at three months. A heavier jaw or a loose neck usually wants a second at three to six months, then annual maintenance.
In your fifties and beyond
What is happening. Elasticity falls faster. Bone resorbs, which shrinks the frame the skin hangs on. Volume loss and laxity arrive together.
What HIFU gives you. It depends entirely on the pinch. Skin that still springs back responds well, and we treat plenty of faces in this decade. Skin that folds and stays folded does not, and a session on it produces a small change nobody else notices.
Is it worth it. Sometimes yes, sometimes it is the wrong purchase and a surgical consultation is the honest recommendation. There is also the middle case: laxity plus a hollow face, where tightening alone deepens the hollow and volume has to be part of the plan.
How often. Two sessions three to six months apart, then annual, when the pinch test passes.
What it is never worth
Buying a package on day one. Nobody knows how your collagen responds until three months after your first session. We do not sell packages at the first appointment for this reason.
Buying it for a hollow face. Tightening a face that has lost volume makes it look more tired. Filler is a different treatment for a different problem.
Buying it two weeks before a wedding. The result arrives at eight to twelve weeks. Book three months out or do not book it for the event.
Buying the cheapest promo you can find without asking the line count. A ₱1,200 session and a ₱15,000 session can both be called full face HIFU. The difference is how many lines of energy your face receives.
What it costs at ICONIQUE
The list price is ₱15,000 for a session running 45 to 90 minutes depending on area. Promotional rates run for most of the year and an introductory website rate applies to first sessions. Consultation costs nothing.
At that consultation we do the pinch test on your face and tell you which of the three groups above you are in, including when the answer is that you should see a surgeon instead. That conversation happens before you pay, which is the only place it is worth anything.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is HIFU worth it for a face in its thirties?
If the jawline has softened and the skin still springs back when pinched, yes, and the result looks like a rested version of your own face. If nothing is loose, no. Ultrasound treats laxity, it does not prevent it, and sunscreen is the prevention.
What is the best age for HIFU?
The forties, on average, because there is real laxity to work on and enough elasticity left to hold the result. Age is a guide, and the pinch test decides.
Is HIFU worth it after 50?
It depends on the skin rather than the number. Skin that still springs back responds. Skin that hangs does not, and a surgical opinion is the honest answer. Faces that have lost volume as well as firmness need that addressed too, or tightening alone deepens the hollow.
Is one session of HIFU enough?
For mild laxity, yes, for about a year. For a heavier jawline or a loose neck, most people need a second session three to six months later, because it works on the collagen base the first one laid.
Is HIFU worth the money compared to a facelift?
They are not competing purchases. A facelift removes skin and lasts years, at a multiple of the price and two weeks of recovery. HIFU tightens the skin you have for six to twelve months with no downtime. When skin hangs, HIFU is not a cheaper facelift, it is the wrong treatment.
How do I know if I am too young for HIFU?
Do the pinch test and look at a photograph of yourself taken by someone else from slightly below. If nothing has changed, keep your money.
