The Hollywood peel explained by the therapist who performs it. What carbon laser does to oily skin and clogged pores, and how long the glow lasts.
Clients book this one for a date. A wedding, a shoot, a reunion, a first day at a new job. They want to look rested and they want it by Friday.
It delivers on that. What surprises people is the second reason they come back, which has nothing to do with the event.
What a carbon laser facial is
You may know it as the Hollywood peel or the carbon peel. Same treatment, three names.
We coat your face in a layer of medical-grade liquid carbon. Carbon particles are small enough to sink into your pores, and once inside they bind to the oil, dead skin and debris that have collected there.
Then the laser passes over your skin. The laser targets the carbon, not your skin. Every particle it hits vaporises, and it takes the trapped grime out with it.
That is the mechanical half. There is a second effect: the pulses warm the deeper layer enough to prompt collagen activity and to calm overactive oil glands. That is the part that shows up over a course rather than in one visit.
What it does for oily skin
Metro Manila is humid nine months of the year and your skin knows it. Most of our clients here fight shine rather than dryness.
Oil sits in the pore. The pore stretches around it. Once stretched, it collects more, and the cycle continues. Squeezing and scrubbing damage the pore wall and make the opening permanent.
Carbon lifts the contents out without pressure on the pore wall, and the warming effect reduces how much oil the gland produces in the first place.
One session cleans the pores you have. A course changes how quickly they refill.
What it does not do
We would rather tell you now than have you disappointed.
It does not cure acne. It helps with blackheads, congestion and mild breakouts. Cystic acne needs a dermatologist and usually needs medication. We will say so at your assessment rather than sell you a course that cannot work.
It does not remove scars. Texture improves. Indented scarring needs a different treatment.
It does not treat melasma. Pigment patches need a different laser setting and a different plan.
It does not shrink pores permanently. Pores do not have muscles. What changes is how full they are, and how much oil arrives to refill them.
What a session is like
Sixty minutes at our clinic in Makati, inside The Peninsula Manila.
We cleanse your skin and apply the carbon layer, then leave it to settle for around ten minutes while it works into the pores. The laser pass takes about fifteen minutes. It feels warm, with a light snapping sensation, and most people need no numbing cream.
You will smell something faintly burnt. That is the carbon, not your skin.
We finish with a calming serum and sunscreen. Your skin looks brighter as you walk out. No peeling, no flaking, no recovery day.
Wait until the next morning before wearing makeup. Your pores stay open for several hours and foundation applied too early settles straight back into them.
How often to come
For an event, book three to five days before. Your skin settles into its best state by then, and you have a buffer if you flush more than expected.
For oily or congested skin, a course of four to six sessions every two weeks brings oil production down. After that most clients come monthly to hold it.
One session on its own gives you a visible result that lasts two to three weeks. That is real, and it is also why the treatment has a reputation as a quick fix. The lasting change comes from the course.
Is it safe for morena skin
Yes, and the reason is worth understanding.
The laser is aimed at the carbon on the surface, not at the pigment in your skin. That is a different target from a pigment-clearing laser, and it means the risk of post-inflammatory marks stays low across Filipino skin tones.
We still adjust settings by skin type. A therapist who runs the same settings on everyone is not paying attention.
Who should wait
We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Nor do we book if you have active cystic acne or an open wound in the treatment area, if you are taking or recently stopped isotretinoin (Accutane), because we may reschedule depending on the dose and your skin, or if you have a fresh sunburn.
Tell us at your assessment. We reschedule rather than treat skin that is not ready.
What it costs
We run promotions through the year, so the rate moves. Call or message us for today's price and for course pricing.
When you compare clinics, the spread across Metro Manila is wide and the spread tells you something. A very low price usually means an older device, a shorter laser pass, or a trainee holding the handpiece. Ask which laser they use and how long the actual laser time is, not how long the appointment is.
Carbon laser or hydrafacial
Clients ask us to compare these two, so here it is plainly.
A hydrafacial works by suction and hydration. It suits dry, dull or sensitive skin, and it does nothing to reduce oil production.
A carbon laser facial works by laser. It suits oily, congested skin, and the effect on oil builds over a course.
Oily and congested, book carbon. Dry and dull, book hydrafacial. Both, we will tell you which to start with after looking at your skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a carbon laser facial?
A treatment that clears the inside of your pores using liquid carbon and a laser. Carbon goes on and absorbs the oil and debris inside the pore, then the laser vaporises the carbon and removes both together.
Is a carbon laser facial the same as a Hollywood peel?
Yes. Same treatment, different marketing name. You will also see it called a carbon peel.
How much does a carbon laser facial cost in the Philippines?
We run promotions through the year, so call or message us for today's rate. Clinics across Metro Manila charge a wide range, and a low price often means an older device or a shorter laser pass. Ask how many minutes of actual laser time you get.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe it as warm with a light snapping sensation. No numbing cream is needed for the standard settings.
How long does the glow last?
Two to three weeks from a single session. A course of four to six brings oil production down, and that change holds longer.
Can I wear makeup after?
Wait until the next morning. Your pores stay open for several hours and makeup applied too soon settles back into them.
Is a carbon laser facial safe for dark or morena skin?
Yes. The laser targets the carbon on the surface rather than the pigment in your skin, so the risk of leaving dark marks stays low across Filipino skin tones.
How many sessions before my skin stops getting oily?
Most clients notice less oil after the third or fourth session. The brightness shows from the first.
Can I do it before a wedding?
Yes, and three to five days before is the timing we recommend. Do not book it for the day before. Give your skin a buffer.
