Permanent makeup is pigment placed in the upper layers of the skin to shape brows, tint lips or define the lash line. It is not a tattoo in the traditional sense: the pigment sits shallower and fades over one to three years, which is why a colour that suits you now can be adjusted later rather than lived with.
Kate Kanner works from Reverie Esthetic and Hair Center in Salcedo Village, Makati. Every appointment starts with mapping the shape on your face and choosing pigment against your skin tone, before any needle touches the skin.
She does not do microblading, nanoblading, combo brows or hair strokes. If that is what you came for, say so at the consultation and she will tell you whether powder or ombre brows give you the look you had in mind.
The colour looks strong for the first few days, then lightens as the skin heals, and settles at around four weeks. A retouch session completes the work once the skin has healed, and it is included in the price. Plan the appointment at least a month before an event, not the week of it.
Does it hurt? Numbing cream goes on before and during the session. Most clients describe scratching rather than pain, and lips are the most sensitive of the three areas.
How long does it last? One to three years, depending on your skin, sun exposure and the area treated. Oily skin fades faster.
Can old work be fixed? Often, yes. Faded or grey brows can be corrected or covered, and pigment that cannot be corrected can be lightened with laser removal first.
Where is the studio? Plaza Royale, L.P. Leviste Street, Salcedo Village, Makati, inside Reverie Esthetic and Hair Center.
